Thresholds

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTION OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

Unlike vampires in popular culture, once one vampire has crossed the threshold of a house, all vampires can enter.

This is the same for humans and any other species, although humans don’t realise this.  Once one has been permitted to cross the threshold any other member of that race can follow.

Thresholds don’t differentiate between New and Old Vampires.  We are very different species, but anything that affects an Old Vampire then affects a New Vampire.

Any entity can enter public places, such as hospitals and libraries.  The threshold of public places is permanently down as there are so many different species crossing the threshold.

In the past a witch could raise a downed threshold against various species, but the knowledge of thresholds seems to have been forgotten, which makes it easier for us.

These days, with Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses and salesmen knocking at the door people are more wary and even if they know who you are may not let you in, whereas in the past a known face automatically gained admittance.

It was then easier to gain entry to dwellings.  The whole village knew us and there was no reason for anyone to deny admittance.

Unfortunately, because fewer people gain admittance, breaking a threshold now takes longer, but it is easier to do it.

Breaking a threshold is time-consuming and organising Old Vampires to do what you want requires doing something that they want in return, so this is only done in the direst of emergencies.

In the past, if there were many visits to a dwelling, it would be remarked upon and people would talk.  Nowadays no-one notices.

Mobs

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTION OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

Humans have the luxury of ignoring gossip.  At the time of the mobs, vampires could not afford to stand out.

Of course, if you have money there is always gossip about you and it is one of our Vampire Servants’ main functions to report what is being said about you.

Sometimes the gossip is hilariously inaccurate.  One time it was said that I had an abortion at a private clinic in Switzerland.

At the time I hadn’t been to Switzerland for several years and of course vampires of any kind cannot get pregnant.

In 1728 the gossip about me was that I was a witch and practised all kinds of lewd practises.

I laughed it off, even when the servants became worried.  I thought I was secure and that nothing could be done to me.

I found out I was wrong when the Witchfinders came.  They tortured me until I confessed and thankfully they hanged me instead of burning me.

If I had been burnt I would have been dead, but when I was hung I faked death, was cut down and buried.

Burial is so not a problem for vampires.  My Vampire Servants had been waiting for this and had a change of clothes and the necessary items you need when you flee a country.

So I fled, this time to Russia for sixty years until my husband staged his own death and the villagers who had remembered me had died.

The worst thing was that this time I couldn’t take any of my servants with me, except my maidservant who would have been out of a job if she had stayed, so she joined me in Russia after a decent length of time had passed.

We always have someone we can go to just in case something happens.  A mob can be whipped up at any time and sometimes gossip is just one step behind the mob.
