Unlike vampires in popular culture, once one vampire has crossed the threshold of a house, all vampires can enter.
This is the same for humans and any other species, although humans don’t realise this. Once one has been permitted to cross the threshold any other member of that race can follow.
Thresholds don’t differentiate between New and Old Vampires. We are very different species, but anything that affects an Old Vampire then affects a New Vampire.
Any entity can enter public places, such as hospitals and libraries. The threshold of public places is permanently down as there are so many different species crossing the threshold.
In the past a witch could raise a downed threshold against various species, but the knowledge of thresholds seems to have been forgotten, which makes it easier for us.
These days, with Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses and salesmen knocking at the door people are more wary and even if they know who you are may not let you in, whereas in the past a known face automatically gained admittance.
It was then easier to gain entry to dwellings. The whole village knew us and there was no reason for anyone to deny admittance.
Unfortunately, because fewer people gain admittance, breaking a threshold now takes longer, but it is easier to do it.
Breaking a threshold is time-consuming and organising Old Vampires to do what you want requires doing something that they want in return, so this is only done in the direst of emergencies.
In the past, if there were many visits to a dwelling, it would be remarked upon and people would talk. Nowadays no-one notices.
