Freedom and Work

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTION OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

It’s a human concept being free, and they don’t realise how little freedom they actually have.

They are tied to work and family, with obligations to provide for both, as work provides for family life. They will tell you they have to do this “because we need the money”.

And then there’s the social obligations, the conformity of clothing to wear at work or at social occasions which is a rule few people break.

There are always one or two who dye their hair pink or wear frilly blouses or something outside the norm, but you can just feel The Disapproval put around by others.

If Humans were truly free they would not need to do anything. And yet they delude themselves that they are free. All that means is that they are not slaves to people.

Work itself is little better than the feudal system of the Middle Ages. You still have the greedy bosses, the ones who don’t care about the workers and/or just out to line their pockets.

Then there are the incompetent ones who can’t do anything and just muddle along the best they can. Good bosses are few and far between.

The only change is that people are free to work for whom they choose. Between Bosses and Lords the only difference is that the Lord earns more money.

The 1920’s and 30’s saw a brief change in this, when Socialism was at its height and man’s duty was to help his fellow man. Companies like Jacob’s had free health and dental schemes.

It lingered on till the ’80’s when Thatcherite consumerism took over, wrecked the unions and brought the workplace back to the Middle Ages.

Unions are still here, but apart from the Rail, Maritime and Transport union Mrs Thatcher castrated them a long time ago.
