Jeremy

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

I never thought that anyone, let alone myself, could fall so fast or so far.

It was 1989 and I had a castle, a husband and money. As I have said before, my husband Jeremy invested badly, the stock market crashed and he disappeared.

His disappearance did not worry me unduly. I assumed he would reappear at some time in some place or other. He did not.

After ten years his debts were called in by other Old Vampires. Debts I had not known about and had to pay. I have kept the receipts for when he turns up.

During that time I had been playing cards and lost badly. I had to sell my castle and buy a house in Portsmouth.

This led to a loss in Status and more importantly, a loss in invitations to social events, which are work, information and, most importantly, fun to any Old Vampire.

The Ruler’s Men offered me work in The Committee and at the prison and made it clear that I was not in a position to turn down either.

After my new positions were known, my invitations decreased further. Thankfully I no longer have to work at the prison, as my Committee work now comes with pay.

Then I was lured into just one more card game and lost badly. It turned out that my ally Adele set the whole thing up and in return for paying my debts made me her Obligatee.

Now I consort with New Vampires and not only that, ones who are in prison, for scraps of information in the faint hope they prove useful in the future.

My stock has fallen low indeed and I remember fondly when I danced the night away with my husband, drank from the choicest of bloods and went on holiday all over Europe.
