At work it is strange to listen to humans talking about holidays in the sun and on the beach when I would not go near either of them if I could help it.

Sunbathing by the pool seems to be a major occupation for some humans. I cannot understand humans paying a lot of money just to lie in the sun.

I prefer green, cool, dark forests where we can hunt freely amidst the leafy green.

The light is not for our kind, but I come of an age where the sun was our enemy.

It is not unknown for our kind to take holidays in places where there is a distinct lack of sun, but by and large we prefer the Old World.

Venice, various kingdoms of Germany, France and those eastern European countries I find so quaint, but where unfortunately the inhabitants tend to believe in vampires.

This, coupled with the garlic the inhabitants of these countries tend to eat can make hunting difficult. Sometimes that is the fun of it. Sometimes I do not wish to be bothered and order instead.

I also holiday in Britain and Ireland, staying with allies and cementing ties. This is what other Old Vampires (who do not have to work for a living) do normally, so it is not a real holiday.

The object of a holiday and also of life is to have fun and enjoy oneself. So often I see humans returning from a holiday worn out and exhausted.

I think they are doing and expecting too much from a holiday, trying to cram everything in instead of relaxing.

Or it could be having children around. They seem to stress humans out.

I have had holidays when I did not have a servant and managed to relax and enjoy myself, so it is not that.

Maybe it is just the prevailing culture, which demands that everyone does as much as they can.
