Obligation

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

Adele has annoyingly picked up my Obligation from where it was before the servants’ strike and is demanding information from me once again.

The strike was a pleasant respite from my Obligation; but an Obligation is only finished with when it has been paid off.

What is interesting is that she wants to know information about the prison I work in.

Every other Old Vampire changes the subject when they hear about it; prisoners are quite properly beneath them.

It is frustrating that I have not been able to find out why she wants this information; Adele’s operations usually leak information like a sieve but this one is sewn up tight.

It is possible that she is either being paid for this information or is under an Obligation herself.

The Status Keeper knows exactly who is Obligated to whom, but it takes time, money or favours (or a combination of these) for the rest of us to find out.

I sometimes pass information to an Obligatee who has come for a “prison visit” if I have nothing better for them to do.

We Obligatees do not get paid for our pains.  I have to keep a check on mine or they will become disobedient and flout my demands.

You have to keep your Obligatees active, or they start to slip out of your control.

No-one likes being an Obligatee and the Obligation always chafes.  If they cannot get out of it they will find a way around it.

Last time I gave Adele information that was obviously wrong; she has not yet noticed it.

Many Old Vampires have found themselves under an Obligation at one time or another; this is my first time and I am not enjoying it.
