Necessary Evil

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

I don’t know why humans make such a fuss about paying taxes; they have been around since before I existed, either in Old Vampire or human form.

Like ourselves, they are one of the necessary evils of the world.  Apart from werewolves there’s not many of us left.

Once people festooned themselves with garlic and crosses for fear of us, now they walk with neither of these.  It makes them easy pickings.

A colleague calls photocopying “a necessary evil” but that just means that she does not know what evil is.

Evil is killing without motive, doing strange and unnatural things to humans and others just because we can and feel like it.

Some would justify our actions by saying we need to drink blood to survive.

That is just an excuse.  We do need to drink blood but we do it because we like to play, to have fun, to hunt just because we can.

If we really wanted to, we could find willing food; there is no act so strange that humans will not acquiesce to it.

One of the other strange things about humans is they are always convinced that their actions are right and for the best, whether it’s murdering their granny or raping their best friend’s girl.

They always have an excuse.  No vampire, Old or New, bothers with excuses.

We take what we want, only being constrained by the laws of the land that we live in.

We Old Vampires pay our taxes; we nod politely at werewolves, changed or otherwise and stand aside or call the Human police depending on what we feel like and what we see.

Old Vampires have always been here and always will be here, no matter how many of us walk into the sun.
