Ways of Life

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

While in Germany I cemented ties between myself and my allies and caught up on information.

Gathering information is something we do as automatically as Humans breathe.  I know everything about the prison where I work; nearly all of it unnecessary trivia.

You may be wondering why I am doing this on holiday, but being an Old Vampire is a way of life, not a job description, so while you may go abroad you are never on holiday.

After the first couple of centuries, certain behaviours are ingrained into you.

For example, the way you hunt.  We all have a certain style of hunting and if you know an Old Vampire well, you can sometimes tell if she or he is around, especially if she or he has been careless and you stumble across a body.

We all closely watch financial accounts and affairs in any country that matters.

These behaviours become second nature to Old Vampires and some of them to Old Vampire Servants.

I could tell if my servant had tidied or cleaned a room or another Old Vampire Servant had done it.

Beyond that, I do not know many of the ways and customs of Old Vampire Servants as it is Servant business

I am sure they keep an eye on financial affairs in other countries as we do.  We employers suspect that Old Vampire butlers have amassed quite a fortune over the years.

A human would retire, but neither ourselves nor an Old Vampire Servant would dream of retiring as it is her or his life, not her or his job.  It ends when they die or walk into the sun.

We do not do this to be paid, we do this because it is what we are and because we enjoy it.

However, I long to be rid of my endless and interminable job with the Humans.
