Degradations of Working

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

It will surprise you that having to be awake in the daytime is only the second-worst thing about working.

The absolute worst is having an employer.  I could never have envisaged it being so bad.

I have and always have had mutual trust and respect between myself and my employees, which is sorely lacking in today’s modern office

I am also supposed to be friends with my manager.  I can just see us at parties passing blood between us as dawn comes up.

I have never been friends with my employees and I certainly have never socialised with peasants.  To my horror I am expected to socialise with both managers and peasants at work.  Thankfully I manage to avoid any such social engagements.

It was difficult to get used to working, when as an Old Vampire I have been able to do as I pleased with my time.  I now have to choose between being tired at work or missing Old Vampire social engagements.

Another degradation is using the telephone.  I had never used any machines before and if needed, I would get a servant to deal with the grubby little machine.

Computers are the only thing that make my work worth doing.  They are a challenge well worth any Old Vampire, especially when they stop working for no apparent reason and need finesse and coaxing to work again.

Pushing buttons on the phone on my desk is servants’ work.  Old Vampires only use them out of emergency or need, whereas for humans they are like a second arm.

Part of my job is filing, photocopying and faxing which are menial jobs only worthy of the lowest kind of servant.  All the servants I have known could do this; the butlers I have known would have turned up their noses at the thought of doing it.
