A good survival trait for Old Vampires is hiding.  We call it such, but it really is escaping attention and fitting in.

We would attract even more attention if we remained unmarried for many years and/or are still young and beautiful.  Fortunately there has always been make-up and wigs to cover our age or people would talk and we would have to move castle every few decades or so.

We maintain the outward semblance of a normal human life, while our predatory and vampiric instincts are allowed to flourish as much as possible when and where most humans will never know.

The mask we all wear is to be normal human beings.  We are careful to maintain that fiction, which is why we have always married, because an unmarried Old Vampire attracts attention.

At first it shocked me that some of my human colleagues set up home and had children without marrying.

Now I’m used to it.  These humans may change as they please, we Old Vampires have our rules to adhere to.

That includes make-up at all times.  It’s essential to preserve the flesh-like tint on your face that is the preserve of live humans.

Our own make-up company for Old Vampires was started by Michael Houghton in the eighteenth century.

He used to be a Vampire Servant who specialised in applying his masters’ make-up, but spent so much time manufacturing make-up that with the blessing of his master he started his own company.

He spent a lot of money developing sun block, which blocks out the rays of the sun so we are not affected at all.

If humans could drag vampires out into the sun where they burnt to a tiny pile of ash, then they would believe in vampires and it would be a far worse world for us.
