Paperwork and Servants

Vampire Servants are people whose duties are to run our castles and clean up our messes. At first the only paperwork they had to do was the monthly accounts, which was the butler’s responsibility.

Sometime in the 20th century I noticed that my butler seemed to be spending more and more time on paperwork and less on important duties, such as tending to our guests.

So I asked him what was happening and he told me that we had to keep employee records and details.

I was very annoyed with this as after our employees have served us for two centuries, there is not much we do not know about them or they about us.

However, it does not do to break regulations, even if they are human ones, as we do not like drawing attention to ourselves. So we sat down and talked about the situation. The outcome of which was that we hired someone to deal with the paperwork.

I would have preferred to hire a Vampire Servant, but at the time there were not many who are good at forging records, which was then necessary and is now an essential skill.

Fortunately there was a man in the village who had been implicated in a forgery scandal for a few shillings.

James, who was my butler, investigated and found that he had successfully forged documents for years before he was caught out by bad luck.

He accepted the position we had for him as he preferred being a vampire over the stigma of prison and what that would do to his family. James sealed the deal by making him a vampire.

Unfortunately when I lost my castle I lost James. They have good positions elsewhere, but I would rather have lost my right hand.
