Patience

Patience

The one trait that all Old Vampires have in abundance is patience.  We have all the time in the world to wait for events to happen, people to change and humans to die.

I am currently having to be patient in order to clear my Obligation.  It will seem to many that I am not doing anything.  They are partially correct as I plan to do nothing at all.

This is because I am waiting for when the time is right to proceed.  If I now start asking questions about how Adele knows of the existence of the local town council, she will know that I have realised the significance of what she has said and cover it up.

Instead I will forget about it for the time being and she will feel safe, relax around me and hopefully let more information slip.

It could take many decades for me to be able to act on Adele’s information, but more likely it will take a few years.

This is where patience comes in, as I am in a very delicate situation and the wrong act or wrong word could mean that I have to ask for help, which could plunge me even further down the Old Vampire hierarchy.

So I have to sit tight and wait until I am sure that it is exactly the right moment to make a move.

This could pose a problem for a human or New Vampire, as both of them may suffer impatience, but not to an Old Vampire.

Patience is one of the things that separates the vampire who wants to be an Old Vampire and we Old Vampires out.

We are hunters and what a good hunter needs is the patience to wait for the prey to get exactly where you want them so you can make a clean kill.

The aspiring vampire has not learnt patience yet, whereas we have not only learnt it, we have practised it for centuries.
