The Council

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTION OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

I have been sitting on The Council for far too long, but unfortunately this tenure is for life.  I would have to disappear or die to resign from the post.  I don’t have the means to do the former and I don’t want to do the latter.

The previous holder of my post did die, which is unusual for an Old Vampire who has lived for over two centuries.

His death is registered as an accident, and the report on it supports that theory.

The Council’s Mission Statement is “work for a better Britain to support and aid the undead community living with humans”.  How nice.

Of course, this drivel is merely the mask it presents to the world.  The Council is a few representatives who have their own agendas.

My agenda is to maintain the rights of Old Vampires, obtain new and better rights and decrease the rights of New Vampires.  As far as I’m concerned, humans are prey and werewolves don’t count.

Most Old Vampires, while aware of The Council, do not have anything to do with it.  We can get on quite happily with our lives without having to deal with The Council.

All The Council does is to stop humans knowing that vampires still exist, which the Human police and the human government help to do.

What The Council really deals with is the existence of the undead community in Britain and its survival alongside humans, who are the majority species here.

My loyalty is always with the Old Vampires, and I do the best that I can.  Lately my best has not been enough, as I was unable to stop The Hunters gaining powers to investigate any Old Vampire for anything.

This was the first time I have failed for a long, long, time and it was over something so important.
