Contacts and Movements

The Old Vampire community is settling down and returning to normal after Eloise and Simon’s disappearance.

Eloise’s husband Samuel has gone off to look for them.  He has letters of introduction from all us Old Vampires to any vampire we know.

I wished him well when he left, and hope to see him again.  He may scour the world and return empty-handed.  He may bring back news of what is going on.  Or he may not return at all.

When Samuel was human he was one of the best intelligencers (now called spies) Spain had.

My sources say he turned vampire so he could carry on with his work, which he was wedded to.  He has certainly amassed a lot of information about Old Vampires, much of which few people are privy to.

If anyone can find out about The Hunters, it will be him.  Unfortunately we know nearly nothing about any New Vampire, and all The Hunters are New Vampires.

So I will be talking to my contact in prison.  Unfortunately I cannot give her anything except information in return.

If I even gave her some chocolates, she could say that she would tell the officers that I had given her chocolates, which is against the rules.  And then she would demand other things.

She could demand drugs, which affect all vampires, or mobile phones, which it turns out that all New Vampires use.

New Vampires move around a lot more than Old Vampires, who prefer to stay where they are for at least a few centuries.

New Vampires can move around from decade to decade and even from year to year and a mobile phone number is a way to keep in contact.  We Old Vampires would never need a mobile phone.  We have our own contacts to keep us in touch.

I love what you say about vampires enjoying the hunt, that this is more satisfying than the actual kill. I’d liken it to love attraction, the initial meetings and discovery. What’s activated in our brain as we become attracted (want) one thing is akin to drug highs, they say, and with vampires, that might all come about in the search for prey. It’s the challenge and the tease and the discovery … I hadn’t thought about that aspect before you wrote about it here. It will probably induce me to write another vampire story! Thanks 🙂
