Reflection and Soul

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTION OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

The benefit of not having a soul is that you have no conscience.  It’s a relief not to have that little voice in your head endlessly banging on about what you should and should not do.  It’s very liberating.

No more worrying about whether what you have done is wrong or right : all vampires have the liberty to just be.  The one downside is the lack of reflection in a mirror or water.

It is the mark of an Old Vampire to be impeccably groomed at all times when in public.  New Vampires would never bother with this.

When I had Vampire Servants the lack of a reflection was easy to deal with; I avoided water when in public and my servants did my clothes and hair perfectly well.

When one has no servants life becomes difficult.  Hair and clothes have to be kept neat by feel and various hair products.  This is possible, but it is the lack of make-up which is a real disability.

Without servants and with the lack of seeing my reflection in a mirror I am unable to apply make-up with any accuracy whatsoever.

At first I tried to apply it myself, but I attracted curious looks in the streets and Adele stifled laughter when she saw me.  Before I go to parties she loans me one of her servants so I can keep the side up.

But as a Vampire Liaison I have to walk into a room without make-up, which announces my fall from grace, from having money and a castle to no money and having to work to all in the room.

I have not talked about it publicly, and the rest of the Liaisons would not bring it up, but I can see them looking at my face and wondering how an Old Vampire could be seen in public without make-up.  They know better to start a rumour about me.
