New New Vampires

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTION OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

We have three new New Vampires in the prison at the moment, and when I say “new New Vampires” I mean New Vampires who are new in prison.

And of course they are absolute pains in the neck.  It would be easier if I could stake and dispose of them, but I don’t.

I was brought up by a vampire to be patient with the new ones and forgive their mistakes as those who had forgiven mine in the past had done.

Then there was no such thing as New Vampires.  My parent, who is the person who brought me up as a vampire, is still of the opinion that New Vampires do not exist.

These new New Vampires are at present confined to a cell for twenty four hours, seven days a week.

Old Vampires realise that prison means no live feeding and have learnt control over the centuries.  New Vampires don’t, and have to be kept restrained away from officers and inmates until they do.

And this is where I come in.  As much as I’d like to I don’t kill them but I can inflict a lot of damage on them.  Unlike humans, vampires do not have any rights.

When a vampire is in prison, the first priority is making sure everyone else is safe from her or him.  Until then, that vampire to all intents and purposes does not exist.

When we are absolutely sure the vampire will not be a problem with other inmates, and most importantly the officers and staff, then we can let her or him exist and start serving her or his sentence.

I once had one new New Vampire who took up to three years to behave properly.  We Old Vampires have had centuries of proper behaviour ingrained into us, we have been shaped first by our parent and then by our society, both of which New Vampires lack.
