Vampires

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

Yesterday I was asked if I regretted being a vampire. Why would I regret it when there are so many benefits?

We don’t suffer from old age and we’re stronger than all humans. Unlike human women, I have no fear of going out after dark, or of walking into dark alleys. I’m not the one who has to be afraid.

And the lifestyle is exquisite. We Old Vampires are the highest of high society, with at least one party in England thrown at a stately home or castle every week.

But it is none of these which makes me glad to be a vampire : it is the feeling in the blood that you can do anything and be anyone as long as you have money to do so.

The feeling that we are a breed apart from the humans : faster, stronger, subservient to no-one, no conscience and no god.

There are so many restrictions on a human’s life that it must take all the fun out of being human.
Dress restrictions that hem you in; what to wear when and for whom.

Vampires never bother with dress codes. Oh, New Vampires will mostly dress in a certain style, but even a New Vampire can show up in a long flowing dress with a formal hat and no-one will say anything, even if the vampire concerned is male.

And if a non-vampire was to comment, then he or she would be taught the error of their ways.
Restrictions on what you can hunt and where you can hunt it are the worst kind of restrictions.
We have the whole world to hunt in, if we choose, and the human race is so abundant.

A vampire can choose his or her own prey according to his or her tastes. We can hunt for the need of blood, or to avenge someone, or for the fun of it. But the real reason for our hunting is that we can hunt because we can.
