Servants

*** DISCLAIMER – THIS BLOG IS FICTION AND THE AUTHOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTION OF ANYONE WHO PERSISTS IN THINKING IT IS NOT FICTION ***

Of course, an Old Vampire has to have servants and servants are mostly Old Vampires.

If I became a servant my friends couldn’t invite me to parties, so instead I work in admin.

Servants to vampires accrue Status. The butler currently known as Joseph Reeves has been serving his current employers for 500 years and his previous employers for 200 years.

He has more Status than a lot of Old Vampires. It’s always been hard to find a good servant, but it’s especially true these days as not many go into service.

A few New Vampires have to go into service, but it’s not a good life for a New Vampire who doesn’t have any Status.

The other thing that separates the vampire servants from the vampires is sun block.

Servant vampires have to wear sun block whenever they go out, or the sun would kill them. A vampire will simply use a parasol, umbrella or car to shade them from the sun.

The English humans will see vampires attired strangely and put it down to the eccentricity of their upper classes.

We developed a sun block that blocks out all the sun a long time ago and sold part of the formula to the humans for immunity from prosecution for drinking blood.

If a vampire – Old or New – is caught stealing, raping or murdering (except if the victim has had their blood drained) they will be prosecuted.

There are several New vampires who are in prison for robbery, and one of my duties as a prison administrator is that someone needs to ensure they get a supply of blood and sun block.

This has to be paid for, and most New vampires are in service are there to work off their debt to the family who paid for their supplies.
